I recently worked out that I would never be able to rely on commission work as a viable source of income. Not because my work is terrible.. I know there are better artists out there. Not because I charge too much for my work.. in fact, it is quite the opposite which lies at the heart of my problem. Whenever people I know commission something, I always end up saying something like, "Oh, don't worry.. I could never charge you for this.. it's not that good anyway.." *sigh* Oh well, I suppose it is lucky I have a full-time job to cover the financial side of things.
